Abstract: Slovakia has embarked on a comprehensive education reform, mainly due to its below-average results in various international competency assessments conducted by the OECD. According to these assessments, the performance of Hungarian minority students in Slovakia is gradually declining compared to that of students attending Slovak schools. This study focuses on measuring inductive reasoning. We used a measurement tool that can be applied to all age groups participating in the educational reform and the above-mentioned international competency assessments, as well as to secondary school students, and which is characterized by its ability to measure inductive reasoning in a valid and reliable manner, regardless of language, educational content, cultural background, and school system. In this research, we used a standardized ability test (CFT 20-R) common used in psychometrics on a sample of 9- to 17-year-old Hungarian minority students in Slovakia. We attempted to interpret the results in terms of specific sub-variables according to different types of schools within the education system, and to identify characteristic patterns and trends in the development of inductive reasoning.
