Abstract: In this paper, I present a short overview of several models of reader-response criticism developed since the mid-twentieth century. According to the understanding of these models, the role of the reader as part of the text cannot be separated from the text itself. However, as there should be no uncontrolled interpretation to one’s own taste, an interpretive community validating each interpretation should be present. Some features of the reader as part of the text due to the intention of the writer is then shown on the example of the Exodus narrative (Ex 12,37-18,27). The information the writer gives to the reader practicing their religion today, the presence of an omniscient reader and the peculiar structure of the text of the Song of the Sea is discussed using the appropriate parts of the text of the narrative.
