Abstract: Nowadays, the value-oriented development of youth through group-based activities and creating a positive school atmosphere and environment are becoming increasingly important. These efforts aim to strengthen young people's democratic and civic participation in Slovakia and the European Union. Essential spaces for this include the everyday locations, environments, and communication channels used by students and young people. This study examines the characteristics of students in Hungarian-language high schools in Slovakia in relation to their participation in school groups and local communities. The study highlights the factors influencing active community participation, the general features of student councils, and the importance of the teacher/mentor role.
