Abstract: In recent decades, the dynamics of the sector of small and medium-sized enterprises has changed significantly due to technological development, globalization and labor market trends. The aim of the study is to explore the 21st century. the development of 21st century employer requirements in the SME sector. The focus of the theoretical study is on what skills and competencies employers expect from employees in the rapidly changing business environment. Our results highlight the fact that employers are putting more and more emphasis on digital competences, creative problem solving and the willingness to continuously learn. The results can contribute to the development of the labor market strategy in order to increase the competitiveness of the SME sector.
