Abstract:
MESEZENE FOR DEVELOPING READING SKILLS
The Mesezene method has been present in the Hungarian pedagogical palette since 2011. The system can be successfully used to develop language skills in pre-school children and to build literacy skills in school-aged children. The impact of the method on language awareness has been reported in several previous studies (see Szűcs, 2019; Szűcs, Tar, 2020a; Szűcs, Tar, 2020b; Szűcs, 2023). This thesis briefly presents the methodological principles of the Mesezene programme's pre-school module and summarises the studies to show how Mesezene can help children from typical economic situations and children from disadvantaged backgrounds to develop their reading skills. In the closure of the article, the author discusses the possibilities for adapting the method to the language of the target population and describes the experience gained in this field.
