Abstract:
KINDERGARTEN PHYSICAL EDUCATION CURRICULA: DO THEY HELP
OR HINDER?
Movement development in early childhood has a critical importance in the development of a healthy, active lifestyle. In recent decades, children's lifestyles have undergone dramatic changes, which present new challenges for the creators of Physical Education Curricula. Both the older Hungarian curricula that were more detailed and had been used until the early ‘90s, and the new ones that are broader can have a great impact on the movement development of children and on the work of kindergarten pedagogues. We also have an international outlook in this field. The purpose of our research was to compare the old and current Hungarian Kindergarten Physical Education Curricula, as well as some international school curriculum practices, regarding the quality and effectiveness of Early Childhood Physical Education. Our research indicates that well-thought-out, time-to-time reformulated Physical Education Curricula provide kindergarten teachers with great help in supporting children's movement development.
