Abstract:
TAMARA DE ŁEMPICKA, THE FIRST FEMALE SUPERSTAR
In this publication I present the life and career of Tamara de Łempicka. She was an artist from a noble Polish family, who throughout her life pushed the boundaries of her own world and that of social expectations, rejecting the role of 'passive spectator' expected of women in the early 20th century. Warsaw, St. Petersburg, Paris, Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Cuernavaca were the most important locations in her life, and I follow her and her career along these lines in my writing. Her life was extreme, she experienced the greatest splendour and wealth, but also the poverty of immigrants, and both glory - which surrounded her as a celebrated artist - and failure were her companions. Tamara de Łempicka's adventurous life is testimony to her ability to start over and over again. She was the epitome of the modern woman, independent, smart and strong. The queen of Art Déco.
