Abstract:
THE PREPARATION AND CREATIVE PRACTICE OF PRE-SCHOOL TEACHERS, FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE PRACTICE OF SINGING AND MUSIC EDUCATION
During almost a century and a half of music education in kindergartens, a number of approaches and ideas have been developed in response to social challenges, which can be seen as a process. The foundations of music education in kindergartens today were laid down by Katalin Forrai (1974) on the basis of Zoltán Kodály's instructions, one of the most important paradigms of which is that Hungarian folk songs, children's songs and roundelays provide the musical basis. The guiding principle in defining the research objective was that creativity is an essential and indispensable skill in everyday life. As a musician and a teacher and educator actively involved in music education, I see an elementary link between arts education and the development of creative skills. My sensitivity to the topic is heightened by the fact that no complex, large-scale national study has yet been conducted on the relationship between creativity and music education. My investigation therefore included a national sample of pre-school teachers to explore the general practice of music education in pre-school, knowledge of alternative music education methods, music listening habits and attitudes towards music education and creativity education. With the help of my results, it was possible to draw a picture of the situation of singing and music education in Hungarian kindergartens today, the methods and trends used, and thus it was also possible to formulate recommendations.
