Abstract:
TEACHING FOR CREATIVITY THROUGH COMMUNITY ARTS IN TEACHER EDUCATION
Today's educational goals give priority to the development of creativity, which is closely linked to the development of problem-solving and learning skills. The question of how schools can prepare pupils for an ever-changing future has a major impact on teacher education. In Slovakia, community art as a possible strategy for developing creativity has not yet received much research attention in higher education. The aim of this case study is to explore the possibilities of creativity education in the context of community art projects, based on the experiences of participating students. We interviewed 12 students who participated in two community art projects (University Totem, A little goes a long way) in Komárno, Slovakia. The results highlighted the potential of community art projects to support creative processes and community building, particularly through the learning of different ceramic techniques.
