Abstract:
QUEEN ELIZABETH AS A ROLE MODEL IN HUNGARIAN WOMEN'S EDUCATION
Setting role models worthy of emulation for young girls was an important task in women's education, which was also supported by the person-centred methodological approach of history education.
Was Queen Elizabeth among these illustrious Hungarian women, who was commemorated annually in schools after her tragic death in 1898? We will consider how the queen appeared as an ideal in the mourning speeches at memorial ceremonies. We are looking for answers to how the figure of Elisabeth appeared in school everyday life in addition to festive occasions: among textbooks, illustrative aids, teaching aids and learning materials. The study also discusses works of fiction aimed at young girls, including the role model aspirations of the Elizabethan cult. The study also discusses the role of women, including female teachers, in cult cultivation. Our research focuses on the period of dualism, especially the two decades after the death of the queen, but gives examples of youth literature up to World War II.
