Abstract:
„CSEPÜ, LAPU, GONGYOLA…” – THE ROLE OF FOLK GAMES IN PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
The preschool years are an important sensitive period for the development of the skills needed to succeed in school. If this is not taken advantage of, children may not develop skills that will later be essential to their learning abilities. The following can hinder children's academic progress: perception that is not fully intact, poor attention, poor memory recall, lack of abstract thinking, immature thinking in language structure, and immature basic skills in reading and writing. Some skills are best developed during the preschool years. These include a sense of balance, rhythm, hand-eye coordination, basic numeracy, memory capacity, hemispheric dominance, laterality, the ability to sustain focused attention, etc. The nursery school is the setting for this development, and the means of doing activities (both operational and cognitive) that are relevant to these skills.

Keywords: learning skills, musical skill development, folk games, sense of balance, sense of rhythm, hand-eye coordination, development of basic number sense, memory capacity, hemispheric dominance
