Abstract: English, German and Slovak typologically belong to languages in which possessiveness is expressed by sentence structures with the predicate habere, therefore Google Translate flawlessly translate precisely these constructions. In the area of possessiveness, there is a greater typological affinity between Slovak and German, where possessivity is also expressed by the possessive dative of the type Der Mutter zittern die Hände – Matke sa trasú ruky. The outlined comparative-contrastive analysis of possessive sentence structures in English, German and Slovak from the point of view of their machine translation into Slovak not only verifies the ability of machine translation based on neural networks to correctly translate the mentioned semantic-syntactic structures, but also contributes to the typological knowledge of the analyzed languages.

Keywords: Machine translations, confrontation of languages, errors in machine translation, possessive constructions, English language, German language, Slovak language.
