Abstract: In order to meet the requirements of the labour market, the teaching of employability
skills is increasingly common in higher education. The development of soft skills has
proved to be no less important than the teaching of domain-specific, hard skills. Many
universities include stand-alone soft skills courses into their curricula as core or elective
subjects, while also teaching them in an integrated way in other, hard skills courses and
employing occasional, supplementary forms of effective soft skills enhancement.
The present paper discusses the strategies of teaching and developing soft skills and
competences, makes a comparison between the two methods of soft skills teaching in an
academic environment based on the findings of a survey, and introduces some efficient
practices of business universities.
