Abstract: More than two thousand years ago, the Roman philosopher, teacher and educator Seneca criticized the (educational) tasks of the school, which were too little oriented to everyday life: "Non vitae sed scholae discimus". In today's technological and globalized era, school is a place where a person of today's world is formed, who should have, in addition to knowledge, skills that will help him live a fulfilling life. Fulfillment of this mission is expected from schools, and thus from teachers. And precisely because the acquisition of information and knowledge is different today than in the past and the areas of responsibility of the school are changing, the teaching profession will be more important than ever to be able to turn Seneca's criticism into a program statement "non scholae sed vitae discimus". The purpose of our work is to demonstrate the fundamental challenges for the education system, conditioned by globalisation, standardisation and digitisation. These factors affect all levels of the education system. For higher education is the application of the Standards of the Slovak Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (SAAVŠ) a key element. Quality Assessment Boards have a major role and responsibility in developing, implementing and monitoring the quality of education. The aim of our work is also to highlight the need for continuous, lifelong education in the health and medical sectors in order to improve the health status parameters of the population of the Slovak Republic.
