Abstract: The study Concrete irrationality in prose by Dušan Mitana, as its title, is specifically the method of concrete irrationality, which is typical for the period of the author's creative development during the social establishment with elements of totality. Mitana applies this method in shorter prose genres, practically since his first published short story, Oáza s jabloňami. We follow the way of implementing the method in the books of short stories Psie dni, Nočné správy, in the novella Patagónia and its echoes can also be found in the author's post-revolutionary work (after 1989), for example in the collection of short sto-ries Slovenský poker. The concrete irrationality that arises is the opposite of abstract, conceptual rationality, it is manifested in the texts by the accidental meeting of paradoxi-cal phenomena, absurdity, tension and mystery, it is a typical way of depicting reality for Mitana, his author's strategy.
