Abstract: The paper looks at the changes in the denominational composition of the Slovak population between 2011 and 2021, with a special focus on the non-denominational population. Within the framework of the censuses conducted within the (Czech)slovak state framework, the denominational composition of the population was also asked, with the exception of 3 censuses (1961, 1970, 1980). After the change of regime, each census has asked about denominational affiliation. The amount of data published has also increased compared to previous censuses. The proportion of non- denominational respondents was very low in the 1921, 1930 and even 1950 censuses (between 0.1 and 0.5%), but has risen steadily since the 1991 census: 9.8% in 1991, 13.0% in 2001, 13.4% in 2011, and by 2021 it had risen sharply: almost one in four (23.8%) of the Slovak population identified themselves as non- denominational. The paper traces this downward trend.
