Abstract: The major changes in social and economic processes in the 21st century make it ne-cessary to rethink the role and professional path of teachers. The need to respond to constant change is a challenge when it comes to responding to expectations. Research on co-education is mostly concerned with the competences of specialised professionals, not with the tasks of mainstream teachers. But alongside attitudinal changes, a methodologi-cal transformation of teachers is also needed. One important implication of all this has to do with training. The first step in co-education is to define the necessary pedagogical competences, which are a prerequisite for the success of the process. One of the guiding documents for co-education is the expert opinion, which contains the diagnosis, equity and areas for improvement. It should be a basic task in the training of teachers in higher education to become familiar with the expert opinion and to be able to use it. After all, it is the starting point, the first step, which determines the direction in which the teaching-learning process should go.
