Abstract: Small and medium-sized enterprises play a key role in improving employment data in Central Europe-an countries, at the same time, their economic role, productivity and market competitiveness are much worse than those of Western European SMEs. Their lag is due to many factors, e.g. due to the low level of innovation activity, the lack of automation, robotization, marketing and management methods expected in the age of Industry 4.0. In line with the interests of our research group, it is important to get to know SMEs more thoroughly, and at the same time to explore the attitudes and attitudes of SMEs and their practical market and development solutions in the age of Industry 4.0. The aim of the research is to describe the situation of small and medium - sized enterprises in Slovakia and Hungary by exploring the factors influencing the competitiveness of Industry 4.0 and presenting possible prob-lems.
