Abstract: The focus of this study is on the ways how time is viewed and conceptualized in the body of Anglo-American proverbs and anti-proverbs (or proverb transformations). My discussion is organized in two parts. After the introduction I demonstrate the background of research and terminology. The second—and the main part of the study—is devoted to different mechanisms of proverb variation in Anglo-American anti-proverbs about time, e.g., replacing a single word, punning, adding new words.

Keywords: anti-proverb, Anglo-American, time, cognitive linguistic approach
