Abstract: People with disabilities or special needs are among the most prominent and pressing social issues of the 21st century. Young people with disabilities face a range of social issues and challenges that affect their quality of life, social inclusion and their future opportunities. These challenges stem not only from physical barriers, but also from societal attitudes, community structures and stereotypes about people with disabilities. This summary aims to present the current situation of young people in higher education and their institutional opportunities. In particular, in addition to figures and assessments, other key issues related to the field, such as access to education, educational aspects of labour market integration and the scope of social obstacles, are also highlighted.

Keywords: disability, special needs, education, integration and inclusion, social acceptance
