Abstract:
NOUN DECLENSION IN SLOVAK FROM A LINGUODIDACTIC POINT OF
VIEW
The fragmentation of the declension system in Slovak (three types separated on the basis
of the grammatical category of gender, within them four declension patterns each, six
cases multiplied by two grammatical numbers) consciously or unconsciously accentuates
the differences in the forms of nouns and gives those who study Slovak as a second or foreign
language the impression that Slovak is difficult to manage in practice due to the
large number of case suffixes. However, the confrontation of case suffixes in Slovak based
on the principle of the stem- ending points to the numerous homonymy of case suffixes,
which actually reduces their number. This fact could be used when teaching Slovak as a
second or foreign language.
