Abstract: The level of consumption is a problem from several points of view. The purpose of the research is to draw attention to the current state and encourage economic actors to change. The concept of conscious consumer behavior and the factors affecting the purchasing decisions of households are presented. The authors outline a proposal for the transition to a higher level of sustainable consumption and present the results obtained in connection with the primary data collection. With the help of a questionnaire research, the responses of 200 respondents were collected and then evaluated. The result of the study shows, that there is a demand for environmentally friendly products and consumers are becoming more aware. On the other side, measures must be taken that can be operated and are sustainable even in the fast-paced world. Department stores should pay attention to packaging-free products, which can be used to attract more conscious but busy consumers.
