Abstract: The article examines the work of Richárd Biberauer, sr. (founder of the Filadelfia Deaconess Association and director-parson of the Bethesda Hospital between 1903–1939): Behind the frontlines, which had been published in the periodical of the Bethesda Reformed Hospital and the Filadelfia Institute of Deaconess (September 1916). The main aim of the examination of the text to reveal Hungarian Protestant traditions and discourses which sharply escalated the legitimacy of war among contemporary intellectuals. Another aspect focuses on details of the text, concerning the personal and theological thoughts of Richárd Biberauer, sr.
