Abstract: The aim of this study is to analyse the piano schools adopted as official textbooks and published in the curriculum recommendations of the piano course by the experts of the Royal Hungarian Academy of Music in the first half of the 20th century. The research describes and examines the piano schools recommended for the first year of piano studies, placing them in the context of the music pedagogical and institutional history of the period. Through pedagogical, methodological and bibliographical analyses of primary sources, it explores the musical material of the text-books and the similarities and differences in their pedagogical, methodological and content-related perceptions. In addition, the study provides a comprehensive picture of the objectives of piano pedagogy in the first half of the 20th century, the leading professional workshops and teaching personalities, and the thinking and views of textbook authors on music pedagogy in pi-ano teaching.
