Abstract: In order to achieve effective learning, an interactive environment and the student’s active participation are necessary. These are ensured by gamification. This study provides an idea of the role and the characteristics of play, but also the relationship between play and performance, and the diverse effects of play on the performance of elementary school students through geography education. According to the results of the research, students demand playful activities. Gamification provides a great learning environment, through which students can obtain experiential information. They can also develop their thinking and communication skills which are essential components of effective learning. Gamifica-tion is excellent for creating a connection between the real and the imagined world, for transforming knowledge into lasting knowledge, thus helping students reach a higher le-vel of performance. The effectiveness of learning and performance can be enhanced by gamification.
