Abstract: The education policies of the European Union countries are specific and different. These differences are reflected not only in direct educational activities but also in the legally binding curricular documents for primary education. This paper deals precisely with the comparison between the Innovated National Curriculum for Primary School (SR) and the National Primary Curriculum for Primary School Years 1-4 (HU: Nemzeti Alaptanterv). The aim of the paper is to find out what similarities and differences exist in the above mentioned curricular documents of each country, while the comparison focuses on the 1st and 2nd grade of primary school. Such an analysis was prompted by our previous re-search, in which we found, using the DIFER test, that primary school students in Hunga-ry in grades 1 and 2 achieve significantly better results than primary school students in Slovakia in grades 1 and 2. Thus, we were interested in whether there is a difference in the national curriculum of these countries in relation to the abilities measured by the DIFER test (Diagnostic System of Assessment).
