Abstract: The study presents the geomagnetic activity that was observed by the Hurbanovo Geomagnetic Observatory of the Earth Science Institute SAS throughout the year 2020. The geomagnetic activity, which was expressed in terms of K index, turned out to be very low during the studied year; the index 5 was exceeded not a single time. Nonetheless, some mild geomagnetic activity occurred anyway; in this study we concentrated on the disturbed period in the second part of October. Possible origins of those magnetic disturbances were identified: three coronal mass ejections that were launched on October 16, 18, and 22; two coronal holes facing the Earth between October 16 and 17 and between October 19 and 24; and the co-rotating interaction regions related to the coronal holes mentioned. It is suggested that rising of the geomagnetic activity may be expected in the nearest future.

Keywords: Geomagnetic activity, K index, relative sunspot number, coronal mass ejection, co-rotating interaction region, coronal hole.
