Abstract: The study deals with the foreign policy of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). North Korea is a state that is unique by the nature of its political system and stability. The DPRK celebrated its 70th anniversary in September 2018 - so it was established before the postmodern age (1960s), but is still “viable” to this day. During this period, the North Korean system remained almost unchanged despite fundamental changes in the international world. The DPRK was established as a second state on the Korean Peninsula at the beginning of the Cold War. There were both external and internal rea-sons for the division of the ethnically unified Korean nation into two states. The external reasons were related to the agreement on the joint administration of Korea - until the elite could govern the state independently. Internal causes were related to the polarization of the domestic and exiled political elites, which were divided into two groups of antagonists.
