Abstract: Bilingualism in the city of Nové Zámky in Slovakia The aim of the research on which our paper is based is to create a "map" of the bilingualism of Nové Zámky. Two autochthonous nationalities live in the city, which has a Hungarian majority. An important viewpoint of the research is to define the nationality and the first language of the informants, since the aim of the project is to make a diagnosis on the orientations and opinions of them, and to make clear their attitude to the bilingualism, national autodefiniton and the assimilative tendencies of the settlement.
Keywords: ethnic komposition, bilingualism, informants, sociolingvistic survey, Hungarian speaker’s community in Slovakia, linguistic and sociolinguistic variable
