Abstract: Diabetics are classified as having the highest cardiovascular risk. In diabetic patients the cardiovascular complications generally affecting all vascular streams. Limb amputation is a serious condition that significantly affects the patientś quality of life, not only in terms of physical, but to a large extent also in terms of social, labour, economic and greatly affects the psyche and overall experience of the patient. The International Register of Amputation Procedures in the Lower Limbs (VASCUNET) documents a very poor situation in the number of amputations in Slovakia compared to other countries. It is therefore essential to improve global care for diabetics, starting with prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. Volunteering also has a large field of activity here, both in the educational process and in nursing itself. Thus, a volunteer is a person who, without the right to financial reward, devotes his/her time, abilities, knowledge, energy for the benefit of other people or society. Prerequisites for working in volunteering are moral and human qualities, strong will, patience, perseverance, tolerance, selflessness, reliability and kindness.
