Abstract: The first year career motivation survey, fitting into the examination of student career path has a 2-year history at the Debrecen Reformed Theological University. This is the first attempt to interpret the results and to put them into a broader context. The most important result of the career motivation survey which was conducted among religion and teacher majors of the two examined years, is that the participants of the two courses have a lot in common. The decision to choose the course was primarily motivated by not financial factors but dedication, personal interest, and the desire to increase their knowledge. Most of them regard their chosen vocation as a profession that has a major influence on society and by doing this, positive feedback and reinforcement on the efficiency of the work can be expected from personal relationships.
Keywords: Career motivation, first year student, academic study, intrinsic motivations, vocational aspiration
