Abstract: Jenő Dsida is one of the poets in the 20th century, which could not get into the literary mainstream, that’s why it is necessary to discuss about his place and his importance in Hungarian literary history. The aim of this essay is to make an attempt to show, through the 20th-century interpretation history of Jenő Dsida’s poetry with regard to the defining questions of contemporary literary studies, in what framework it is possible to reinterpret the concept of catholic literature today. I examine the central question of Catholicism (and every religion, generally): the possibility of speaking of God in relation to the changes in the European intellectual history up to our present. I intend to regard Dsida’s unique texts not only as the relics of the past, but also as poetic texts, investigating the problems of human existence in the transcendent prospect of being which can preserve their relevance for the people of our age in the present-time horizon of literariness.
