Abstract: Nowadays, companies and their employees have to face new challenges due to globalization and digitalization. Multicultural teams have to cooperate effectively at the physical workplace and in the virtual space as well. In 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic, online solutions, remote work, and virtual teams became the new norm for many firms. Online communication can be very effective, but the lack of personal presence, cultural and language differences, nonverbal misinterpretations, preconceptions, and stereotypes can cause significant difficulties because the way we communicate, behave, and connect to others is determined by our cultural background. This study aims to explain the phenomenon of cultural differences, the process of acculturation, the importance of cultural sensitivity and cultural coping mechanisms, and describe its connection with the four-dimensional concept of cultural intelligence (CQ).
