Abstract: After the treaty of Trianon the Hungarian Reformed Church had to face serious losses in its membership. The existing church organisation was disrupted and a structural reform was necessary. Only after the dictatorship of the proletariat was it possible for the Reformed pastors to find their way. Gyula Forgács, the pastor of Pécel was the main character of the Circle of Pécel, a movement among pastors and laymen. It was formed in 1920. A significant conference of the time was the conference of Kunhegyes (23–25 August 1921), where a Memorandum was accepted and signed by 134 people altogether. At the conference well-known pastors gave speeches about various topics. Although the Memorandum of Kunhegyes was not accepted by the Synod, it had a great impact on the later history on the Hungarian Reformed Church.
