Abstract: In the globalized world of the 21st century not only linguistic diversity but also cultural transfer has become a part of our everyday life. We receive most of the news through translations and interpreting processes. Translation processes do not simply mean the translation of words and expressions but rather the comparison of word fields and conceptual fields where the knowledge of politics, society, economics, semantics and intercultural semantics also plays a part. In my paper I will uncover how the monolingual dictionaries of two different languages (German and Hungarian) define five keywords and expressions of an actual newspaper article and what differences there are regarding the meaning of each word in the dictionary entries in the four languages.

Keywords: globalisation, cultural transfer, translation process, intercultural semantics, contrastive semantics, monolingual dictionary
