Abstract: The study addressing the creative use of proverbs in story-writing in teaching English as foreign language consists of five sections. In the first section I review the incorporation of Anglo- American proverbs into the language classroom. The second section comments briefly upon my experience in teaching courses on Anglo-American Proverbs and Proverbs in an American Cultural Context in various Hungarian universities and colleges. The third section addresses two of my books treating Anglo-American proverbs. The fourth section discusses how proverbs are used in tales, fables, and short stories. Last but not least, section 5 demonstrates activities in which tales, fables and stories, along with proverbs can be incorporated into the language classroom.
